Goal Setting and its Importance
Goal Setting and its Importance
Education education goals income individuals setting goals
Before going into the subject matter, it will be necessary to consider what goals and goal setting really mean. In the context of this article, a goal is referred to as something an individual hopes to achieve at a given period of time. Goals are set in different areas of life such as career, income, education, family, health, etc. On the other hand, goal setting is defined in this context as the act of writing down one’s visions and life dreams on a paper or where the individual can easily look on them, and this actually serve as a goad towards achieving such individual’s goals.
As individuals with enormous wishes and desires, we all have goals whether we consciously set them or not, but the fact remains that some people eventually get to live the life of their dreams, while some others continue to yearn for their dreams which may never come through, and the main reason for this is that some people fail to support their written down goals with some form of positive action towards the attainment of such goals. Some people do not like setting goals in some areas of their lives because of fear of not reaching them, but goals are not based on things one must achieve, but they are actually based on things one hopes to achieve or could accomplish within a space of time.
Goal setting is very important in different areas of our lives, and some of its importance will be highlighted below.
1. FOCUS: When we set goals in different areas of our lives, it helps us to focus on our target. Simply looking at the goals we have on a regular basis will actually help us to focus on whatever we hope to achieve, and this could be made possible by writing them down or keeping them where we could easily look on them. Without our own written goals, we will be knocked off by the first obstacle in our path, and may end up not reaching our destination.
2. BUILDING SELF- IMAGE: When an individual accomplishes a set of written down objectives, he feels satisfied and fulfilled about such achievements, and this actually helps to build his self- image which will equally help the individual to undertake other objectives in the future without fear.
3. MEASURING PROGRESS: When you write down your goals, it actually helps you to measure how far you have gone in achieving some of those goals you set for yourself, and to see if what you are doing is moving you closer or farther from your ultimate target.
Goal setting is very important in different areas of life, because it helps you to measure your efforts in reaching where you want to be in each area of your life.
